The Barden Bellas from the first 2 movies are back, but they’ve been replaced. Having finally graduated from college, a new crop of girls is singing acapella at their alma matter and the old Bellas are feeling obsolete. Shitty jobs aren’t panning out and dreams are already broken, and the old Bellas are feeling obsolete (I know! Who would have guessed that majoring in mouth music wasn’t really the best life choice?!). A last ditch effort to reunite comes in an invitation to perform for the troops in a USO show and since the Bellas have literally nothing else going on (except for one unwanted pregnancy), off they go to a warn-torn Spanish resort hotel to do their part.
Now you might think that being in a war zone is the toughest part of this new chapter, but in fact, to the Bellas, because they’re not crazy AT ALL, the worst part is 
competing against bands that play instruments. How dare they! I thought college was supposed to prepare you for the real world but these ladies are literally not even prepared for guitars. Yeesh. (Not to give too much credit to the new “bands”, including Evermoist, led by Ruby Rose, because after seriously mocking the Bellas for being a “cover band”, it turns out they all do covers too! A Cranberries tribute is particularly poignant with the recent death of Dolores O’Riordan.)
Anyway. There was absolutely no call to make a third movie here, and the script strains so hard to justify itself you’ll want to buy it a squatty potty. If you absolutely must watch it, you’ll want to wait until it’s available at home, where you can fast-forward to all the Sia bits and avoid the inane “plot” (though you’ll want to hear John Lithgow sing with an Australian accent at least once, just to say you did). It’s pretty clear that this franchise needs to learn the same lesson the Bellas do: moving on is good.
ASSHOLES WATCHING MOVIES 
Definitely was not too excited for this one. Waiting for it on Netflix is good for me.

My wife and I skipped it at the theater but I do still want to see it. I like the Bellas and their insanity and could do for a nice little time waster.

Tubularsock liked the first movie for the music. The story line was a bit dated even then so Tubularsock assumed this one would be worse. A coming of age move singing old barbershop style.
Followed by an “over the hill” movie aspect that you can’t stay 20 forever!
And then when I heard the “singing for the troops” crap it said all Tubularsock needed to know, Bob Hope is dead!
And it looks like Tubularsock missed either the first or the second film because Tubularsock has only seen one. Is that correct? There has been two others before this one?
So it appears that we have another Halloween 53 franchise that needs to learn that playing the same script over and over may not be that entertaining.
Yet, can’t wait for Halloween 54!

That is true, there are 2 other movies and even though I’m 100% sure I’ve seen them both, I can tell you 0% of the plot of the second. No idea.

I guess they missed the point as to why the first movie was a success. It was because it’s unique and different. But now it sounds so generic and boring that it ruined the reputation of a good first movie.

Yeah, I think they knew they’d overstayed the college setting, but throwing it into a spy movie was a little much.

Anna Kendrick would be the only reason I’d see Pitch Perfect 3 but I probably won’t get around to it. She’s a real trooper for staying loyal to this unlikely franchise.

I will see this on library DVD, Jay. Probably will laugh even though it is dumb! I think the movie “Snatched” with Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer was hilarious, even if it was predictable. The mother-daughter roles were spot-on and there were a couple of touching moments, too. I liked the rather sad movie, “The Big Sick” but it had merit and plot, with truths included. Smiles, Robin

This is a good one for DVD. Even if it’s dumb it can still bring a smile to your face. I will always love Fat Amy.

I hear you–it was kind of a stinker. But I still went to it, because I always get a kick out of these movies. Believe me, filmmaker son did not let me hear the end of it, either.

This one doesn’t sound good at all and as I told you yesterday, my daughter hated it and she liked the first two. Sounds like two should have been enough.

Yeah, this one takes a big curve away from the first two, and leaves behind not just setting but some of the characters as well.

Good review. Definitely agree with you about this movie. I loved the first two Pitch Perfect movies, but this third film was such a disappointment and totally unnecessary. What makes it worse is that the movie tries to be different from the other two, but its actually the most thinnest and bland one. Again, such a disappointment!

Yes. I really like the Elizabeth Banks\John Michael Higgins commentating duo, but they really had to shoe-horn them into this one, and the whole thing felt off.
They left behind a lot of characters (namely, the boys – were they just too expensive?) and introduced some new ones, only to drop them and forget about them.

I have a real soft spot for the Pitch Perfect movies. I enjoyed the first two, I suspect that’ll continue with PP3 even if the returns are diminishing.

I almist git stuck seeing this , but git lucky, it had dissappeared from the slots , the manager was so sorry.. we wrre refunded ( friend got tickets on line) and.. got to pick snother movie.. my lucky nite, i saw 3 billboards!! Which i LOVED

I thought the original was supremely brilliant. I thought the sequel was horrifyingly God-awful. This one…well, I liked it more than the second one…barely.
