Who Lives in a Pineapple Under the Sea?

SpongeBob-Movie-Sponge-Out-of-Water-TrailerI can’t imagine a single sentient organism that would be in any way remotely satisfied by The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

We had screening tickets for this that were for a 10am showing on a Saturday morning, so needless to say, we didn’t make it. And now I’m damn glad I didn’t haul my ass out of bed for this nautical nonsense.

I love the show. This, however, looked too much like the idea of the same person who thought the Looney Tunes characters should be updated as superheroes. It was an update that was neither necessary nor desirable. Of all animated TV shows I think Spongebob is the one that could have the most fun with the idea of “jumping the shark”. Instead it just looks like they did a movie-length version of what it’s like when a show really does jump the shark.

This review makes me very glad we didn’t get up at 10 a.m. for the screening. Interesting side note: this movie makes me think of the Paris Metro, because of how many ads we saw for Bob l’eponge, le film when we visited last February!

I’ve been out of the loop for a very long time, but I have to ask: is Spongebob still on the air? I thought the show was in this weird situation where it still exists, but there’s only three new episodes a year or something.

Ahahahaha, I’m with you Jay! Some things aren’t worth watching even if it’s free, especially when you have to get up early to do so. My sleep is worth more.
