Saltburn

I’d heard a few things about Saltburn, certainly. Enough that I felt I should only come at it with loins fully girded. And yet I was in no way prepared to have such a stupendous time. Writer-director Emerald Fennell is not only at the top of her game, but she’s blowing everyone else out of the water while she’s at it. I love how her brain works, how she effortlessly translates these moments of passion, ruthlessness, insecurity, and sexual deviance into pure cinematic joy. It’s rare to be able to indulge in such wretchedness without shame or fear, but with Fennell at its helm and Barry Keoghan as its star, Saltburn is bold and bracing and ultimately incredibly fun.

Hi All, Welcome back! I don’t know what happened but I stopped receiving your reviews for several months. Then this one popped up and I realized how much I missed you… LoL

I just went back and read your X-mas themed reviews. Great stuff! I am a Hallmark fan and watch them all year round. Not consistently (or constantly), just whenever I’m really bored with “normal” movies. I started two years ago… They’re the best terrible movies ever and completely addicting. I’m sure that says something about me (and my tastes), but I’m not sure what.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to more of your explosion and indie reviews.

    Take care,
    Kevin

      Hi Kevin!

The fault is mine entirely, I stopped writing for a while, but sometimes a movie just demands your return.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve learned to appreciate the Hallmark genre. I think there’s a lot of comfort in their predictability and safety in the fact that you’re guaranteed a happy ending. They don’t require you to think, which is possibly why you use them as a reset. I used to be hard on them, but I’ve come to realize their terribleness is part of their identity, and they’re so much easier to embrace and enjoy.

It is very much that kind of movie, so at least you’d go in knowing that it’s purposefully manipulative and it does tug you all around, trying to distract you from what’s really happening.

Nice to hear from you and so sweet of you to drop by.
Saltburn is certainly a divisive movie and it’s definitely okay to not be interested if it’s not your thing.
Personally, I like a movie that’s challenging and prods at my sensitive spots. There’s a lot to unravel and there’s a lot of shocks to distract you from doing the thinking.

Glad to see a post from you guys again! I just saw this movie and I quite enjoyed. A bit WTF moments here and there, but the twists that the movie provides as well as the character study and solid casting choices…..makes the whole endeavor quite intriguing from beginning to end.
