Leave it to Los Angeles to come up with a crazy pants way of dealing with a great depression. They set up a very tempting monthly lottery with the caveat being that whoever wins can have their jackpot stolen if they’re murdered before sundown.
I’m not only surprised at how many people will play under these circumstances (how much money would you need to win to make it worth inviting 4 million people to openly attempt your murder?), I’m also appalled at just how many of those 4 million people turn batshit bloodthirsty when there’s life-changing money on the line.
Anyway, Awkwafina is the woman who unknowingly stumbles into a win, and subsequently becomes an instant murder magnet. John Cena is the man she hires to fight off 4 million murders, which, let’s be honest, would be a career high and personal best for just about anyone.
Anyhoo, I normally dislike John Cena but rated him on a sliding scale of tolerable to actually good in this movie, which astonished and confused me in equal measure. In fact, I spent most of the movie in stitches.
Sean attributed this to how high I was but I’m wondering – did anyone else like this movie?

John Cena surprised me in the only 3 productions I’ve seen him in: The Suicide Squad, Argylle, and the very funny Peacemaker series. Maybe it was the actually good screenplays or the fact that he only had to play himself.

Not a fan of the premise even though I like John Cena—it’s far fetched and sounds more like a John Wick/Squid Games ripoff.

We don’t question the premise in a movie with John Cena!

It looks like the way they described the live action Speed Racer when it came out: like someone threw firecrackers into a spinning dryer. I was gonna skip it but now that you were guffawing a lot, I’m changing my mind, lol …………

John Cena does a good job of playing John Cena, who has a surprisingly decent range. 🙂 … I’m looking forward to this one. 😀
