Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter: because of course they do. It’s a statement that feels crazy to have to make, which only makes me realize to a further degree how crazy it must be to have to live it. We support the movement 1000%, without reservation. We are only a little movie channel and we are trying to be better allies by listening and learning. To that end, we humbly offer up a few movies, many of which can be streamed for free, that focus on the black experience.

We here in America are not focussed on European statistics. I’m sorry, but that is NOT the topic of this post. Please kindly whine somewhere else.

You know what? I just reread your comment and decided that you actually do not deserve the courtesy of my previous response. I believe you can fucking burn in hell, you fucking piece of shit. European peopke more likely to be killed by a knee to the neck than an African American? Go fuck yourself. Where the FUCK are you getting your statistics you stupid fucking cocksucker

Well, that was quite a display of potty-mouth. I won’t do your job for you. Do your own research. It appears you revel in political correctness and Globalist propaganda. It doesn’t say much for you. If you feel like bowing to a pack of rioters and Antifa thugs, that is your choice. But, count me out. Liberalism, please find a cure

Fuck off with your antifa shit. I’m not associating myself with some trendy hashtag friendly movement goddamn it. I believe in the equal treatment of every human being and that SKIN COLOR should not be the thing that dictates how people are treated. And don’t you dare fucking conflate the rioters and looters and rubberneckers whose only goal it is is to discredit such mass PEACEFUL protests in an effort perpetuate the status quo, which has been the systematic oppression and second class citizen status of black Americans. So do your own research and learn how to separate cause from chaos, protestor from rioter. Of course you won’t. That’s too much to expect from someone who is so hopelessly on planet 9 as you are.

Although I quite enjoyed your response to the idiot in the comments today, I decided to delete him. I have a very low tolerance for that these days and I don’t really want to give that nonsense any platform if I can help it.

Oh I know EXACTLY how you feel – I accidentally started a flame war with conspiracy theorists on a video we did on youtube.

Wholesale changes need to be made to the entertainment industry to have people of color in front of and behind the scenes in film and television. When you have few nominiees in the major awards who are minorities that tells you a story.

A great statement that I agree with 1000%. It seems that finally, finally, people are starting to understand the pain behind the statement. It was fun to see you both “in person” and thanks so much for the list of movies. I’ve seen more than half of them and will make a point to watch the others. Peace and be well.

Yes, and not discriminating against others who look different, and redistributing resources more fairly to counter the biases inherent in the system, and drawing up new systems of law, education, justice, and government to make sure there is true equity for all.

Yeah. There’s so many other people in the world. Why aren’t they represented in movies? Thanks for the great list. It spells hope.

The world is indeed a big and beautiful place but we have diversity right here in our very own country. Canadians come in every shade and we are a nation of immigrants – we NEED them for our population and we are stronger for them. When we are our best selves we honour our different perspectives and cultures. Canada is a country of privilege and resource which should be available equally to all but our system is biased and we have not done our best.

Solid list of recommendations. I know that it was not an easy video to make given the subject matter, but it is important and appreciated noneltheless.

Also, Into the Spider-verse totally counts. It may not fit the theme, but it is good to have films that touch on the positive and fun side of the black experience as well. Plus, it is just a kick ass film.

It totally is. We re-watched it. I remembered loving it when it was released and being kind of surprised by how much I liked it, but on the re-watch I fell in love with the animation all over again, the way they were able to make the characters and especially Miles feel extremely real and grounded, but also have a distinct comic book feel.

Wow. Thank you for sharing and getting involved in the conversation!

“It is difficult for many of us to know when and if we should jump into the conversation, if we have a place here, if we have a voice. But I don’t think that silence is appropriate.” 👏
